Work: Luke Grenfell-Shaw at Chianti by UTMB

Luke’s story is wild: a lifelong athlete, stage four cancer survivor in his early 20s, cycled from Bristol to Beijing during a pandemic on a tandem (almost made it), and now a trail running pro with a UTMB index of 878. Wow. And above all he’s just a genuinely nice guy that cares a lot about the people around him.

Luke invited me to Chianti to document his race and capture footage for a season-long documentary he’s doing with @brooksrunning.

It was a wild one: a dark, rainy night, everyone pushing hard from the start, a brutal course. This time a DNF. But no regrets. Honestly inspiring for someone like me, who tends to play it a bit more on the save side during races and shies away from those really dark places.

  • Client: Luke Grenfell-Shaw / Brooks

  • Task: Capture the preparation and race of Chianti by UTMB in video and stills for a long-form season documentary.

  • Success: The race didn’t go the way we hoped it would. But we reacted fast and captured the good times as well as all the drama.
